Thanks to Lora’s job working for Theatre Projects, we were tipped off to a very exciting new theater just opening in Norwalk, the Wall Street Theater. We went along for a sneak peek to see it just weeks away from its grand opening performance, “8” A NIGHT WITH BROADWAY’S BEST…which is actually this Monday, May 15th. There’s still time to buy tickets. We’ll meet you there, we’re going, and we can’t wait!

We spoke to three key players in getting this amazing renovation and opening off the ground; from dream to reality: Frank Farricker of Lockwood and Mead, the Developer; Suzanne Cahill, the President and Chairperson of the Board; and Billy Blanks, Jr., the Artistic Director. We had questions!

We had the pleasure of taking a break during our workday and chatting with Broadway legend, Betty Buckley. An award-winning career that has encompassed TV, film, stage and concert work around the globe, Betty is probably best known as the quintessential musical theater actress.

This talented Tony Award winner will be singing songs from her recently released live double album, Story Songs, in a couple of upcoming shows at the Wall Street Theater in Norwalk (and look out for our exclusive Wall Street Theater blog post coming this week!). Her album is a collection of music from all genres, from theater, to folk, to Top 40.

Olley Court, located on Main Street in Ridgefield, is one small-but-mighty, utterly sumptuous boutique! Selling home decor, clothing, jewelry, art, gifts, and interior design services – you can cancel your round-the-world trip, they’ve found all of the most exquisite objects from around the globe for you! We spent the morning with store owners and interior designers Susan Buzaid and Robin Curnan, discovering everything there is to know about Olley Court.

Neither of us claim to have any real interior design skills. We know what we love, and have lovely homes, but we truly admire those that can “put together” a room. When we spent the afternoon with Sam Allen, founder of Sam Allen Interiors, at his Weston family home, we learned so many great tips. Both of us were inspired and went home to rearrange coffee tables and pile books together in coordinating colors!

Bev here! I’ve worked at Buck’s Rock Performing and Creative Arts Summer camp for 26 years. That’s 26 years of speaking with parents, guiding them through the enrollment process, and answering their many, many questions that they inevitably have (some enroll without a single question, and that’s cool too!).

Often, at the end of the list of standard questions parents will say, “What am I not asking?” or, “What should I be asking?” I present to you, a handy checklist of important questions to ask before enrolling your child in the summer camp of their dreams!

If you’re a 90s music fan, then you definitely know Nelson’s Can’t Live Without Your Love and Affection hit (it reached #1 on US Billboard Hot 100) and yes, we were obsessed. We’re also fans of Gunnar and Matthew Nelson’s father, Ricky Nelson. He starred in The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet from 1952-1966, Rio Bravo with John Wayne and Dean Martin (to name just a couple), and stole the hearts of fans all over the world, even after his death in 1985.

Rick’s twin sons play an amazing tribute show to their father in Ricky Nelson Remembered – and if you love his music, it’s a must see [Lora’s seen it and highly recommends!]. Grab your tickets now for their Ridgefield Playhouse show on April 13th – click here

Last month we posted a feature on “A day in Southport,” situated at the very bottom of Fairfield County. Therefore, to keep things balanced, we decided to spend “A day in Sherman,” at the tipety top of Fairfield County. Having been inspired by our post on Sportsmen’s and feeling like an active day in nature, we decided to #getoutside.

Lora knew of a great hike in Sherman’s Herrick Trail Preserve that ends with a really great view from the “Housatonic Lookout.” A 1.25 mile, moderately flat trail in the snowy woods, this would classify as a “Fitness” post! Read on, as the day also consists of “Food” (Amore) because these two categories are our loves…and whaddya know, keep scrolling for a tiny shot of “Fashion” at the end, cute sweaters by Wooden Ships 😁

Enjoying the exploratory stages of our brand new blog Unlocking Fairfield, we decided that a few day trips would be in order to get to know our county. To start, we spent “A day in Southport”…because, well for one, the Southport onion…and for two, Southport is a cute historical little hamlet with an easy to walk around “downtown” (shopping – see below) and for three, Artisan Restaurant inside the renowned Delamar boutique hotel!

Bethany Watson

Bethany Watson is a co-host on the extremely popular iHeartRADIO “Elvis Duran and the Morning Show,” which has millions of listeners tuning in every day. Bethany is also a kindred spirit. She is never without a coffee in hand…and if she is, then there’s a cocktail in its place. She keeps us up-to-date with the news and what’s trending, and can be (self-admittedly), totally nerdy (she does a piece on the morning show called Hip Hop Clarinet).

Lora knew Bethany from a previous photoshoot, so we said, “Hey Bethany, we’re going to be in the city, can we come visit you at the studio and ask you a bunch of random questions?” to which she replied, “Suuuuure, come on over!” She’s super nice like that.

Today’s blog adventure brings us to the childhood home of luge Olympian Tucker West, in Ridgefield, CT. With such a cool name as Tucker West, we think he was probably destined for great things! He has numerous world cups and gold medals to his name from luge championships around the world. “At the age of 18, Tucker was the youngest male ever to qualify to represent the United States in the men’s luge at the Olympics. West placed 22nd in the men’s single competition at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.” Thanks, Wikipedia 😉

Just in case…luge is the face-up, feet-first sled one. Haven’t you ever wondered how anyone gets into such sports, and what must be going through their mind as they hurtle down that icy track? Us too…read on.
